This is my Senior Thesis Art Show. Small-town stories have shaped me and my view of the world. I want to shine a light on the creatures that lurk in the shadows of American Midwestern lore. We as modern day people have lost our childlike curiosity for the unknown. We have grown complacent. I want to inspire the quest for mystery and encourage people to question what is out there beyond our view. Historical posters have been used to advertise and encourage travel. My goal in making posters of each cryptid and their town is to encourage the viewer to visit each of the depicted locations. I challenge the viewer to go on an adventure where they might find one of these creatures. Being from middle-of-nowhere Indiana, I have seen the decay of small-town America, and I’m hoping to raise interest in these towns by showcasing their stories. The world is so big, and full of countless mysteries. What’s stopping you from finding your own stories. This is my love letter to the stories that raised me.
